Molecular Biotechnology
Biotechnology has been defined in many different ways. Specific definitions for pharma biotechnology can be deducted directly from these definitions. In general, biotechnology implies the use of microorganisms, plants, and animals or parts thereof for the production of useful compounds. Consequently, pharm biotechnology should be considered as the biotechnological manufacturing of pharmaceutical products.
Various forms of biotechnology existed already in ancient times. The Bible documents this ancient origin of biotechnology, informing us about Noah who apparently knew how to make wine from grapes. Based merely on experience but without the understanding of the underlying principles, bioproducts were for many ages homemade in a traditional fashion.
